Hope is in sight for nervous dental patients, a new high-tech dental tool is on its way.
A new system developed by US neuroscientists may revolutionise a visit to the dentist for anxious patients. The cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) system, called NuCalm, induces a state of relaxation even in very nervous patients. The equipment consists of a generator and headset that transmit electrical and sound frequencies to the brain.
Patients are also asked to wear dark glasses and are given tablets of a brain chemical called GABA to take, which also enhance the calming effect.A recent study by a US dentist found that all nervous patients who had CES during their treatment saw their anxiety symptoms improve by 50 per cent or more.
